The Mens Bar

Don't be fooled by the name, this is not where the gentlemen retire with cigars and brandy after dinner!

In fact, the Mens Bar gets its name from the Union's Latin motto, 'Men Agitat Molem', meaning, 'Mind Over Matter'. 

The Union's most popular drinking hole, the Mens Bar offers a great pub atmosphere all week at the hub of the campus, with a full programme of events ensuring that it's always buzzing (see below for full details), including big screen sport, the Union Quiz and lots more.

Monday Night - Sports Night
Every Monday night in the Mens Bar we show the best in Premier League football from SKY or Setanta. The games kick off at 7.45 but you can enjoy a drink with pitchers available at £7 for 4 pints

Tuesday Night - Union Quiz
From 8.00pm onwards every Tuesday you can pit your wits against your fellow students and the machinations of our resident quizmaster in pursuit of fame, prize money and maybe even a few free pints! Watch out for our special Nigel Wright sponsored nights - if you can beat the Nigel Wright team they will buy you a drink. Many have tried and only a few have succeeded! Entry is 50p and teams have a maximum of six.

Wednesday Night - Get Your Kit Off
Win or lose it's time to let your hair down after a hard days sporting effort. In the Mens Bar we have a DJ playing from 6pm and live feeds of BUSA results across SubTV. If there's a match on we'll have it on our big screen and plasma TVs and later in the evening we even throw on some free food too! If you're heading down to Blu Bambu this is the perfect way to start a memorable night.

Thursday Night - JAM and The 'U' Factor
On Thursdays we usually chill out a little and hand the Mens Bar over to the gentle hands of Robbie and his acoustic genuis. Everyone is welcome to come down and play - show us what you can do in front of an appreciative audience. However this term we've upped the ante a bit and we are hosting 'The U Factor' - our own talent contest in the mold of another, more famous version. Strut your stuff before the Mens Bar judges and you could win £100 but more importantly win a place in our Grand Final and win £300 and the joy of performing at the last Solution of the term!

Saturday - Big Day In
If all you want to do on Saturday is kick back, have a quiet pint, read a free newspaper and watch some football, why not come down to the Mens Bar and get away from it all. We show both afternoon and evening games, usually kicking off at 12.45 and 5.15. Through the spring we will also be showing back-to-back Six Nations Rugby matches
